What is Evidence of Christ About?

This blog is on the evidence of Jesus Christ which hopefully will give assurance of faith to many Christians and answers to the curious. Evidence of Jesus the Christ abounds in and outside the Bible. In the Bible you read about the culture and history at the time when Jesus lived. Jesus voluntarily submitted to crucifixion and death to pay the price for our sins. He could do that because He was God in the flesh. The physical resurrection proved that Jesus was who He said He was. The Old Testament gives multiple historical prophecies of the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All these Messianic prophecies have come true. The oldest Greek manuscript of the New Testament of the Gospel of John was found dated A.D 150. It is now in the John Rylands library. This manuscript is a fragment of the gospel of John which includes John 18:31-33, and verses 37-38. The Bible proves itself. “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty” 2 Peter 1:16 NKJV.

The Bible is the best authority we Christians have. History reveals a long journey in the writing of the Bible. Within the history of that journey the authority of the Word of God is proven. Besides the Bible, there is much evidence of Christ outside the scriptures. Writings by first and second century authors have written about Jesus. Although all these writers knew Jesus, not all speak well of Him. I have gleaned a few of these first and second century authors as examples: Thallus, Seneca, Josephus, Ignatius of Antioch, Pliny the Younger, Trajan, Tacitus, Samosata.

Archaeology has proven many historical events in the Bible. Here are two archaeological examples that once again prove the existence of Jesus Christ. The discovery of a limestone block called the Pilate stone. This stone was a building block dedicated to Tiberius Caesar from Pontius Pilate who crucified Jesus. Another discovery was the ossuary or bone box of Caiaphas the high priest who oversaw the trial of Jesus. Archaeology is a very helpful science in proving the authority of the Bible. The Old Testament is also very important to the Christian Bible. The Dead Sea Scrolls that were found in a cave were dated to be as early as 250 B.C. Almost the entire Old Testament was found in these scrolls. The Septuagint is the oldest Greek translation of the Old Testament translated around 200 B.C. which was translated from the original Hebrew, and you can still buy the Septuagint today.

Since I am a science and space enthusiast, I enjoy reading about and studying creationism. Before I was a Christian, I was an evolutionist. Through the Bible the Holy Spirit taught me God created the Earth and the entire universe in six days. I will show evidence of a six-day creation. Fossils that we find embedded in limestone show evidence of Noah’s flood. I will also write about creation and Noah’s Ark on this blog.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ was a physical resurrection. I will show you evidence.  I will also show you oppositions to the resurrection of Jesus Christ and how weak they are. Many Christians including me believe the Shroud of Turin shows evidence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Shroud of Turin shows a photographic image of a crucified man on a cloth. Since I was formally trained as a photographer, I have become very interested in the shroud. I own seven books in my library on the Shroud of Turin. The cloth has been through many scientific tests. Barrie M. Schwartz, President of the Shroud of Turin Education & Research Association (STERA) said, “We can tell you what it’s not, but we cannot tell you what it is.”

I agree with the Apostle Peter when he wrote, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear,” 1Peter 3:15 NKJV. Christian Apologetics is the study of the evidence of Jesus Christ.
