But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear 1Peter 3:15 NKJV
Biography
Ever since I could remember my parents took me to Sunday school and church. This was a social tradition that most people followed at that time. I was baptized as an infant and at the end of the ninth grade was confirmed into the United Methodist Church. In the fourth grade in Sunday school the church gave us children Bibles. Sometimes we would memorize Bible verses. After being confirmed in the United Methodist Church, I became a member of that church. I believed I was a Christian.
As a child, I was not interested in sports. I preferred science. Being an only child, I had two rooms that were mine, my bedroom, and another room in the basement I called my science laboratory. In there I had a chemistry set, microscope, telescope, minerology lab, and a spectroscope. I also collected some reptiles and amphibians and collected rocks and minerals. I was a member of a local gem and mineral club. I also had an ultra-violet lamp that I used to view minerals and other things in ultra-violet light. For my microscope, I would use a microtome and mount my own microscope slides. I also built and flew model rockets. In junior high school I built my own spectroscope with lenses for a science project. I was also a space enthusiast and watched the astronauts go up into space. My father and I saw the astronauts walk on the moon. I read both science fact and science fiction books. This interest in science would later be a benefit to me when I became a Christian. When I was 16 years old, I got interested in photography by taking a photography class offered in the ninth grade. Eventually, I went to school for photography and received an associate of applied arts degree. In photography I had worked as a Photographic technician and an assistant for various photographers. I also was a catalog photographer and later freelanced as a commercial photographer.
In 1982, I had to quit the photography business. I could no longer financially support myself. I had to give up photography as a full-time career. At that time in my life, I was very depressed. I wanted to not think about my photography and financial problems, so I turned on the television to watch a science program on educational television. I could not find a science program, so I went through the channels and found Billy Graham. I thought, I would listen to him to see if there was anything I could agree with him on. I can’t remember what he talked about, but he said, if you have any questions about how you can have peace with God, call the number on the screen. So, I called, and a counselor shared the gospel with me. I prayed with that counselor that night for God to come into my life and I repented of my sins. I still worship God as Savior and Lord in my life today. I became a born-again Christian.
Right away I got involved in a one-on-one discipleship program. I would read the Bible every day and pray. A couple years after I got interested in creationism. It all started when a Christian friend gave me a newsletter on creationism. I saw how science fit into the creation event in the Bible. I could now have assurance that God created the earth and the universe in six days like the Bible said. I started reading books on creationism. Another friend gave me a book on evidence of the faith by Josh McDowell. Josh wrote about evidence of Christ. Besides using the Bible as evidence, he mentions other writings, archaeology, biblical culture and history, and the validity of the resurrection. I began to read many books from Josh McDowell and to continue reading other books on apologetics and creationism. All this information proved to me that the historical biblical Jesus is true and proves the Bible. The Bible itself proves itself through its historical culture, prophecy, geography, and archaeology. The history of how the Bible was written also proves the authenticity of the Bible. Apologetics and creationism both helped fulfill my first love for science. Being a born-again Christian, it finalized my faith and love for Christ.
In the early 1990s I went back to school to study sales and marketing. I thought it would help me with my photography. When I went back to school, I fell in love with writing. We had to write reports; I enjoyed the research and writing. I began to subscribe to magazines and buy books on writing. Eventually, I took a Christian writing course through the mail from the Christian Writers Guild. I also subscribed to the Writer’s Digest Book Club. A few years later, I decided to build a website about Christian Apologetics. I had it for several years. I had several pages on the website; it was too overwhelming. I needed help with it. I could not find any other writers. I couldn’t find time to promote the site and build traffic. In 2020, I decided to let it go. Here I am now with this blog. I thought this blog with regular posts on Christian apologetics would be better than for me as one person trying to manage a website with several pages.
